Gian Antonio Stella
Masi Civiltà Veneta Prize (Asolo - Treviso, 1953)
One of the most brilliant and incisive editorial writers in Italy, Stella works as special correspondent for Corriere della Sera; has influenced not only the debate but also the very language of our times. In 1996 his inaugural publication "Schei. Dal boom alla rivolta. Il mitico Nord Est" discussed the economic boom and bust of the North-East of Italy. This heralded a stream of other writings which tackled issues such as the rise of the Northern League, the phenomenon of immigration, growing intolerance and the general socio-political malaise which is rife in Italy today. Perhaps his best known work is "La Casta" (2007) which was written collaboratively with Sergio Rizzo and, now in its 22nd edition, is ranked as a bestseller having sold more than 1.2 million copies; a success which has earned him the title "father of anti-politics".
